Petr Mach, MEP, asked the European Commission in an interpellation regarding EU’s money used by organisations which award Palestinian terrorists. The EU has been financing the construction of the Palestinian Bar Association in Ramallah and several its projects. Now the Palestinian Bar Association wants to „award an honorary law degree to the martyred hero Muhannad Al-Halabi and to hold its next swearing-in ceremony in his honour“. „Does the Commission in any way monitor the use of these funds? Is the Commission not disturbed by the fact that the organisation is rewarding murderers?“, asks Petr Mach, MEP.
„The Commission dissociates itself from the public statements of the Chairman of the Palestinian Bar Association on the topic referred to“, says Commissioner Hahn. He however does not question the usage of the money. “The projects have been subject to an ex-post audit to ensure that they meet all the requirements provided for in the European Neighbourhood Instrument Regulation.”
